Lugu Lake, 2680 meters above sea level, lies in the Ninglang Yi Autonomous County of the Lijiang Prefecture,
and is a freshwater lake on the plateau. The lake covers an area of more than 50 square kilometers. The average
depth is about 45 meters, and the deepest spot is 93 meters. It is one of the deepest freshwater lakes in China,
and one of the places where the natural ecology of the water in the lake and the environment around it receives
the best reservation.
The water in the lake is clear and transparent with a light sweet taste. There are three small islands in the
lake Liwubi Island, Snake Island and LJge Island. In the water there are carps, brachymystax lenoks and schizothoraxes.
On the surface of the lake there are swans, wild geese, white cranes, red-crown cranes, teals, etc. In the lake
the Mosuo girls in accordion-pleated skirts are sailing the small, old and simple
"boats shaped like a trough for feeing pigs". On the north of the lake lies (he Gemu Mountain, also called the
"Goddess Mountain'. The scene of the lake and mountain shows the tender and charm of the girls, so lugu Lake has
got another beautiful name, "Girls' Nation".
