Yunnan Cigarette
The Yunnan cigarette is made our lf the Yunnan flue-cured tobacco produced in Yunnan Province, and the cut tobacco appears to be orange color mixed with fine ingredients emitting appealing smell and mellow taste. It is a treasure product among the high-grade cigarettes enjoying great fame.

Yunnan Baiyao
It is a pharmacist-prepared medicine which cures internal and external injuries particularly effective for stopping bleeding, curing wounds, relieving pain and diminishing inflammation, invigorating the circulation of blood, reducing the swelling and leasing, expelling pustule and relieving internal heat or fever etc. It is famed as "Panacea". It was made by the Yunnan famous local doctor Qu Huanzhang in 1914.

The Yunnan Stripe Bronze
Kunming has a long history of bronze manufactory industry. As early as the Warring States and western Han periods, bronze culture was created in Kunming area unique of its kind with distinctive national feature, marvelous regional color and artistic style. The technology for the manufacture of bronze is rather complicated; special technology is used to enable the bronze and other metals to be integrated but not mixed together, presenting crest and stripe decorative pattern with different golden colors interwoven together. It wins for it the fame because of its luxurious elegance.

Wax Printing Products
Wax printing is a kind of handicraft articles dyed by hand by the local people popular in the area of the minority nationalities of the Yunnan Province. It has a long history. The wax dyeing garment materials mix together the culture and art of the Yunnan minority nationalities. Its patterns are unique, new and original, simple and unsophisticated. Products include clothing, handbags and wall tapestry, etc.

Embroidered Handcrafts
The bright clothing and embroidered accessories of Yunnan's minority peoples are favourite purchases . Decorated baby hats , caps , and beautifully appliqued beibei(padded cloth baby carrier , tied to the mothers' back) are charming and amusing . Jade

Many visitors have been impressed by the jade , which comes mostly from neighouring Burman , jade bracelets ,jade fingers ,jade pillow . etc. Jade has been cherished by the Chinese as symbol of many virtues . Jade carvings are made by chiselling , grinding , and boring . Typical subjects of jade carving are flowers , birds , animals , vases , incense burners and human figures especially beautiful woman from popular fairy and legends . The skill of the craftsman is shown in his ability to make the best use of the natural colour and the shape of the material .

Tea
Many varieties of local tea exist ; some of the beat known names are Pu Erh , Tou , Dianlu and Dabaicha . Yunnan black tea is very famous and excellent .


Herber
Chinese from all over the world come to Yunnan for its traditional medicines . Some familiarity with the products is necessary forsuccessful shopping , and the mere reading of the packages sends many foreigners reeling . Chinese angelica , a herb of the carrot family , is favoured as a pain killer , helps blood circulation and is good for the stomach . Pseudo-ginseng (sanqi and tianqi ) is considered an ideal preventive medicine for cardiovascular disease .

Local Products of Dali

MARBLE:

Dali marble, quarried mainly in Cangshan Mountain, has an age-old mining history. Dali marble, beautiful in patterns and colours, refined in texture and multiform in variety, has a strong anti-corrosive nature. Among the multiform varieties, there are "yunhui" (grey clouds), "caihua" (coloured flowers), "shuimohua" (wash painting), "cangbaiyu" (white jade), etc. The reserves of "yunhui" are the richest. "Shuimohua" is the most famous and valuable. It is good for making high-grade building material and handicrafts. A poem depicts the special features of Dali marble thus: "Marble flower patterns are blazing with colours, exquisite, glistening, magnificent.

It is marvellous and picturesque that no painting in this world can compete with. Such great riot of colour and patterns are resembling the life of man and the beauty of nature."

The market of tourist souvenirs made of Dali marble with natural patterns has a very bright future.

SCHIZOPYGE TALIENSIS (popularly known as "bow fish"):

It is a fresh water fish in Erhai Lake, mostly at the Xishan (Western Hills) source of Erhai Lake. Schizopyge Taliensis favours swimming in clear water and striving against swift current. It can spring up like a bow when it holds its tail in its mouth and then releases.

With a fat and round back, the fish has white scales, opulent meat, fewer bones, very small gall bladder, fine texture and high protein, soit is nutritious. Therefore, it has been reputed as "the best of all fish" by the local people. An adult fish weighs 200 to 300 grams.

SNOW PEAR:

Snow Pear, planted and cultivated in Haidong District, on the eastern shore of Erhai Lake, is one of the finest pear species. It is round as a ball, green in peel and white in pulp. A big one can weigh one fourth of a kilogram. With rich sugar content, apple-acid, protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin B and C, the pear is juicy and sweet, and has the quality of promoting the production of body fluid and quenching a thirst. It moistens the throat and relieves a cough.

TUOCHA:

Tuocha (white tea or a bowl-shaped compressed mass of tea leaves) is the traditional local tea and s&ely produced by the Xiaguan Tea Plant. The material is the first-harvest leaves of the year. Through the process of screening, rubbing, compressing and drying, the lump of tea leaves is made to look like an upside-down cake, called Tuocha, black in colour. The tea water is clear, aromatic and sweet. To drink Tuocha persistently will have the result of reducing fat and hypertension. So now it has become a best seller both at home and abroad.

DALI STRAW HATS:

Straw hats are made of wheat straw in plait patterns, by going through bleaching treatment, sewing together into hats and then fitting out with pink coloured ribbons. The Dali straw hats have more than ~7o patterns and designs. The best ones are those which require the finest wheat straw with best weaving techniques. Straw hats are the favourites of young boys and girls of the Bai nationality while they are having outings and visiting friends or relatives. And it is said that straw hats are used as gifts among young people while they are courting or getting married. Like marble articles, straw hats are another kind of the most important handicrafts of Dali. In recent years, more patterns have been designed and more hats produced. It is not only favoured by the minority people at home, but also welcomed by people abroad. It has good markets in America, Australia, the Philippines, Japan and Hong Kong.

TIE-DYED CLOTH:

It is also a traditional product of the Bais in Zhoucheng Village. The process of making this kind of cloth is like this: First, the villagers fold and tie white cloth by hand in the patterns of the Eight Diagrams (Bagua), butterflies, the Three Pagodas with their reflections and plum flowers, etc. and then dye the pieces of cloth for more than 10 times in indigo-blue water (both imported indigo-blue and local made indigo-blue are used), and finally, hang them up in the open air to dry and untie the nods and spread them out. Now, you'll see the patterns of white and blue prints on the cloth. The characteristic of the tie-dyed cloth is simple in style but the colour sustains. It is an excellent material for making tourist products such as clothes, window and door curtains, table cloth, wall hangings, souvenir bags and handkerchieves, which are applauded warmly in both domestic and foreign markets.

LiJiang Local Products


Shanchuan Ham
It's produced in Shanchuan Basin of Yongshen county and this is the name origin. There, because of special cooking skills, materials and weather, ham can be kept well for several years.
Zhubiao Meat
It's named by Muoshuo and Pumi people in Lugu Lake area. In winter people kill pigs and vacate the body, then put salt and other material into them. After sewing the pigs body well people place one by one under a big stone-plate for several days. When the pig's skin becomes dry and hard, all the making process is over. This Zhubiao Meat can be kept well for years.
Naxi Sousage
In Naxi language it is called MaBu, a very popular local food. A piece of pig intestine is filled with mixed blood and sticking rice.
Buttered Tea
The main drinking of Naxi, Muoshuo and Pumi people to drink in the morning, while eating Lijiang Baba. The colour is white and it smells good.
Yongsheng Oil Tea
First fry rice and tea leaves in oil, then at boiling water into it. The tasty is incredibal with good smell.
Tuotuo Pork
Pieces of big pig,s meat.While eating,just hold one piece in hand without any untensels.This Tuotuo pork is Yi people,s favourate.
Lijiang Baba
The main material of this food is wheat flour and oil. There are two types:salty and sweet,but both round in shape.Not only in new city but also in the Old Down this Baba is on sale in every snack bar.
Buckwheat Baba
It's Yi minority's food specialty. In stead of wheat flour for Lijiang Baba, this Baba is made of buckwheat flour.
Chicken-Pen Jelly
It has a distinct gray-colour, but it's quite delicious and a very popular food in Lijiang area.
SuLiMa
A sweet and sour soft drink of low alcohol. It is light yellow and very netritious. In Lijiang only Muosuo and Pumi people make it and call it SuLiMa, which now is so popular for every one in Lijiang Prefecture.
WuMu Tea
It is planted along Wumu River's valley in HuPing county of Lijiang Prefecure, so it was named WuMu Tea, a green tea with good quality.
Lijiang Snow Tea
It grows in high place at least 4000 meters sea-level. Its colour is white so called "Snow Tea". Now it's also used as Chinese medicine.
Tian Ma
A Chinese medicine. The tuber of elevated gastrodia is used for making liquor.
ChongChao
Grows in meadow at an elvation of 3000 metres. When the fungus grow up in the dead catepillar body. It's shape still the same as the catepillar's worm. It is a very rare and expensive Chinese medicine
Sheep-stomach Mushroom
This mushroom's shape looks like sheep's stomach so local people call it Sheep-stomach Mushroom. Now it has become the main export to other countries.
JiZong Mushroom
This Mushroom is very tender and tasty. If fried in oil, it is more delicious with good smell.
Crabapple Fruit
It's sour but tasty. In Autumn thousands of fruits in crabapple tree is also a beautiful view.
Ci Mang Pear
One of 4 kinds famous pear in China, just grow in CiMan village in the eastern outskirts of Lijiang City. This is the name origin for "Ci Man Pear".
Citron Fruit
Naxi people like to plant citron trees in courtyards. usually a big citron fruit weights about two kilogrames. Citron fruits can grow in the tree for several years. In fall citron fruits become yellow but in spring they can turn into green again and continiously grow in the tree. Citron fruits can be used as medicine.
White-Cloud Bean
A popular green food in Lijiang prefecture. Now most of the producut of this beans is output to Japan.
Xing Liquor
A Lijiang local nutrious liquor of low alcohol. It's sweet and soft. Now it has become the Japanese favourite and most of this liquor production are output to Japan. Even when the Queen Elizeberth¢ò visited Yunnan Province she highly remommended this liquor after drinking it.
Spirulina
Spirulina is an ancient ocean creature on the earth which was found by Dr. Kelimente in 1940. Because of its special niturion, this Spirulina is recommended by UN.ESCO: "the most wonderful ideal nutriment for tomorrow". In the world only three lakes were found for Spirulina growing. Chen Lake is one of them, which lies in Youngshen county of Lijiang prefecture.
